Welcome!
We’re a group of ordinary people who have received forgiveness, life, joy and hope in Jesus. We love welcoming new people amongst us. We long to serve people in East Chorley, introducing them to Jesus and supporting people amidst the difficulties that life brings.
We are a vibrant evangelical church, which means we love Jesus and are committed to the Bible as God’s word. We are affiliated with the Evangelical Alliance and work with gospel churches across denominations.
We are not a perfect church, far from it! But we know someone who is perfect – Jesus – and his perfection is more than enough for us!
We’d love to get to know you

Our Vision
SEE JESUS
Jesus is the most amazing person! He has grace, healing and forgiveness for everyone. We see Jesus in God’s word (the Bible) and in his people (the church). As we see more of Jesus, our lives are transformed to be more like his. Jesus is at the centre of our church’s life and so talking to him in prayer is central to what we do.
JOIN THE FAMILY
St James’ is a safe and welcoming family that celebrates with each other when we’re up and cries with each other when we’re down. We grow as followers of Jesus as we help each other to know, love and trust Jesus more deeply.
CHANGE LIVES
When we follow Jesus, our lives are never the same. Jesus transforms us slowly but steadily. Jesus is also at work in our world. We want to work with him, spreading Jesus’ love, especially by introducing people to Jesus. We have a particular heart for East Chorley where we are located.

Meet The Freemans
Dan is a southerner and Geraldine from the North East. Before coming to Chorley they’d lived in more houses than years they’d been married.
They are so glad they have settled in Chorley, loving the friendly people and the wonderful scenery. As a family they enjoy walking or cycling along the canal with the hope of getting to Frederick’s (one day perhaps they’ll canoe it too!)
Dan works as the vicar of St. James’.

Meet Joanne
I’m Joanne from Chorley. After a series of sad life situations I found the courage to come to St. James’ one Sunday in 2022. I haven’t looked back.
I struggle daily with my mental health but now I have a new solid identity in Jesus and my family of brothers and sisters in Christ at St. James’.

Meet Alastair and Tracy
Hello we are the Phillips family; Alastair, Tracy, Ewan and Annie. We enjoy the outdoors, holidays, sports and music.
We have been worshipping at St. James’ Church for 22 years and love being part of the church family, welcoming newcomers into it, introducing them to faith and helping them grow. St. James’ has been a loving, supportive place for us to raise our children in the Christian faith and it is a great joy to us that they still come to church with us and have developed their own personal relationships with God.

Meet The James Family
Both Ian and Hannah grew up local to Chorley and joined the St. James’ family in 2012. They enjoy the fellowship and community that St. James’ provides.
As a family they enjoy picnics and games in the park (ideally in the sunshine but more often in the rain). Ian helps lead the youth group.

Meet Jason and Caleb
Jason has been regularly attending St. James’ Church since 2023. He is exploring his beliefs about Jesus and the Bible and has participated in a couple of the short courses offered by St. James’ which have been helpful.
Jason is a single Dad, and is joined by his little boy Caleb when he visits church for the more informal 10.30am Sunday service. Both Jason and Caleb have found St James’ Church to be very welcoming to families with lots of activities put on to help children feel involved.
Outside of church, Jason and Caleb like to get away often, camping in the Lake District and North Yorkshire.

Meet The Garretts
Phil and Debbie have been part of the St. James’ family for years.
They love the warm, welcoming atmosphere – it truly feels like coming home every time they walk through the door. Phil leads the worship band most weeks while Debbie serves faithfully as one of our service leaders.
They have three children who are growing up so fast. As a family they love escaping to the hills of the Lake District whenever they can, and they’re regulars at the Keswick Convention – a highlight of their year.

Meet Pat
Hello, I’m Pat. 38 years ago we bought a little corner shop on the same block as the church and I’ve been going to St. James’ ever since.
Lots has changed in 38 years but one thing that has never changed is how much the people of St. James’ care about each other. Having slowed down in life now, I really feel that everyone cares for me. It’s certainly a good place to be.
Pat runs our talking tables on a Saturday morning.

St James’ School
St James’ School plays an important role in church life. We love the work they do to educate and care for families in our community. We seek to partner with them as we love and serve the people of East Chorley. You can find out more about them here.
